JACK-JACK Adapters

JACK-JACK adapters connect two jack connectors or change their size or design. When choosing, it is not enough that both ends look similar. Check the 3.5 or 6.3 mm diameter, the number of contacts and whether you need a plug or socket. It is also worth considering the direction and space in which the adapter will be fitted.

Mono, stereo and multi-pole jacks do not have the same wiring. Compare the number of metal contacts with the connector on both devices and their documentation. An adapter can change the mechanical format, but it does not itself change the signal level or type.

When connecting headphones, an instrument or line-level equipment, check which output and input you are connecting. The result depends on device compatibility, contact wiring and the condition of the cables. If you need a different signal level or balancing, an adapter alone may not be sufficient.

A rigid adapter can exert greater mechanical leverage on the device connector than a short adapter cable. In a confined space, consider an angled version or a cable adapter. Do not put the connector under tension, and check that the connection is secure before use.

Compact size may be important for home connections, while body construction and strain relief matter more for frequent stage connections. Compare the specifications in the individual product details. A similar adapter name does not necessarily mean the same internal wiring. Before first use, set the volume low, check both contacts and only then test the entire signal path. If the signal cuts out when moved, check the connector, adapter and cable separately.

Choose an adapter according to both connectors and the signal path. If wiring information is missing, check it for the device or choose a ready-made cable with precisely specified connectors.
