Piano lamps
A piano lamp illuminates the keyboard and sheet music so you can see any keys while playing even without the room's main lighting. It is suitable for upright pianos, grand pianos and digital pianos, for playing in the evening or on stage. A good lamp should direct light where you need it and must not dazzle you or increase the temperature of the instrument. The range includes LED lamps from brands such as Konig & Meyer and Gravity.
What to look for when choosing
| Parameter | What it means | What to watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Light source | LED technology with low power consumption and little heat generation | Check the brightness and even illumination of both the keyboard and sheet music |
| Mounting | How you attach the lamp to the instrument or stand | Check that it fits your instrument and does not scratch the finish |
| Arm | Length and flexibility of position adjustment | The arm must hold its position without dropping |
| Power supply | Mains, adapter or batteries depending on the model | Check the cable length and a suitable socket |
| Design | Colour and shape, such as black, white, gold or silver | Choose according to your interior or stage equipment |
Where to position the lamp
Position the lamp so the light falls on the sheet music without shadows from your hands. On an upright piano, the lamp is often attached to the top board or music desk; for a digital piano, a stand-mounted solution may be more suitable. Also choose the lamp according to whether you want to leave it permanently on the instrument or remove it frequently. During a performance, also make sure the lamp does not obstruct the audience's or camera's view.
Music stands and accessories are also useful for sheet music. If you also work in a studio, check out mixing console lamps. You can find other types of stands in the Stands category.
