Power Cords and Extension Cords
Power and extension cables connect music and lighting equipment to the mains. Here you will find mains cables with IEC connectors for amplifiers, mixing consoles or power supplies, powerCON cables for powering stage equipment, extension leads and rack power strips. When choosing, check the connectors at both ends, the length and the conductor cross-section according to the device's power consumption.
Which power cable do you need?
| Type | Particularly suitable for | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| IEC mains cable | Amplifiers, mixing consoles, power supplies and effects | The connector on the device must match the cable |
| powerCON IN / OUT | Stage equipment where you want to connect several devices to one power feed | Locking connector, requires a matching socket on the device |
| Extension lead | Pedalboard, equipment table or rehearsal room | Number of sockets and total power consumption of connected devices |
| Rack power strip | Rack systems with amplifiers and processors | 19" size and mounting method |
What to look for when choosing
Choose a length that is sufficient without leaving an unnecessary loose loop on the floor, and check that the cable can handle the power consumption of the connected devices. For power supplies and effects, a mains adapter power cable may also be useful, as it has different connectors from a standard IEC cable. Power cables only carry mains voltage; other cables are used to transmit sound.
What not to confuse them with
Before buying, also check the label on the device for its power consumption and connector type.
Audio signals are carried by audio cables, instrument cables and patch cables. For a larger setup, plan the cable routing and always pull the connector out by the plug, not by the cable. You can find the complete selection in the ready-made cables category.
